Leadership Recognition

“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”

Students

The students at North Gower-Marlborough P.S. participate in a variety of activities to augment life at the school and in the community. They have initiated responses to community needs and global conditions through the Spirit Club and a grade 5 program entitled "Who’s Nobody". Typically they spearhead the following causes school-wide: UNICEF Jar Walk, local food drive, Toy Mountain, World Vision and the Cure Foundation. School life is enhanced via intramural and inter-school sports, choir and the Spirit Club. We acknowledge the students’ contributions in our classrooms, school announcements, newsletters, assemblies, and in the principal’s report to School Council.

Staff

The staff at North Gower/Marlborough P.S. is dedicated to utilizing their considerable talents and expertise to create a warm, supportive and professional learning environment. The staff continues its commitment to the Balanced Literacy, Critical Thinking, and Inquiry Based Learning. While this entails considerable extra effort on their part, they feel the added benefit to the students is the primary concern. As part of their professional development, the staff attends many workshop opportunities and engages in a Professional Study Group and same-grade planning. To further enhance school life, the staff willingly dedicates a considerable amount of their personal time to volunteer as leaders of a wide variety of extracurricular clubs and events.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Parent volunteers are an integral part of our school community. They run a weekly Healthy Lunch Program as well as a monthly Friday Night Movie. As a result their planning and fundraising and in collaboration with the OCDSB, the school has benefited from improvements such as: a new kindergarten play structure, an updated foyer and kitchen, beautification of the grounds and play area, two basketball courts, funding for cultural programs, the library and an outstanding iPad project. Parents volunteer in the classrooms and assist at extracurricular events. The parents host a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon and the staff hosts a Volunteer Appreciation Event. The parent community and staff enjoy a warm, supportive and collegial relationship.

Community

As a rural school, North Gower-Marlborough P.S. has different opportunities from its urban counterparts. The school is often the hub of activities, such as the monthly movie night. Our rural supporters, like the Trinity Anglican Church, have provided us with a key to the church in case of need for shelter and can certainly be counted on to offer assistance. The local Rotary Club has financially supported the launch of our grade 5 character development program entitled, “Who’s nobody?” Our community partners are recognized through the Community Bulletin Board in our hallway and in the Community News section in our school newsletter.
